The Gadabout and If You Make It (dot) com Present:
Gada-Make It DIY Film Competition 2008

This year the Gadabout is trying something different. We are teaming up with our friends at ifyoumakeit.com and putting on a DIY film competition. The idea is simple, make a short film, “do it yourself,” and send it to us. Most of the films will then be uploaded to a special screening room on Ifyoumakeit.com, where folks can view them, comment on them, and rate them. This will determine what films will move on to our first round of actual screenings in select cities. In the end, the best of selection will be put onto a dvd, and toured with across the country.

This is meant to be fun. But there are rules:

1. All films must be made within 2008, and for this competition. (Filming may begin December 1st, 2007, and be submitted by July 1st 2008) Films will be uploaded as they come in.
2. All original ideas. Write your own script, idea, story, documentary, etc.
3. Original music score. Create your own music, or use a local musician, or friend, either way make sure you have all rights to the music (it just makes for a better film anyways).
4. Props. Try to create all your own original props. No product placements, or any kind of recognizable corporate imagery.
5. Budget. Budget should not exceed $500-1000. Try to use your own equipment, friends as actors, cheap snacks. Your budget should really only be the price of tape, about $5-10 per 60 minutes.
6. Keep em short! Films should not exceed 10 minutes.
7. Have fun. It’s really meant to be a fun exercise. Involve your friends, family, and loved ones.
